Alternative Investment Fund is a special investment category that differs from conventional investment instruments. It is a privately pooled fund, which collects funds from investors and invests them under different categories of investments as specified by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) for the benefit of investors.
Alternative investment funds are an alternative to traditional investment options (stocks, bonds, and cash). AIF consists of investment fund which invest in private equity, venture capital, hedge funds, managed funds, etc. Investors can invest in AIF funds to diversify their investment and get benefits. Generally, institutions and HNIs invest in AIFs as substantial investments are required.
